Located in the Nang Loeng quarter of the historic Rattanakosin district. The Nang Loeng Theatre Theatre is the oldest cinema in Thailand. It is a two story wooden theatre in a Rustic style, similar to a barn. It was opened in 1918. The audience were seated on wooden benches. There were no seat reservations or ushers on duty. In the 1930’s it was re-named Sala Charlerm Thani Theatre. The cinema was closed in 1993.

It was used for a while hosting live Khon classical theatre performances. Owned by the Crown Property Bureau in 2016 it was taken over by the Thai Film Archive. Renovation began in 2019 to create a museum, cultural centre with a facility to screen movies. It is now a listed monument.
