A January 2, 1909 article in Moving Picture World reported that W.M. Barnes, “the pioneer moving picture showman in that city, has again bought the Grand Theater and will hereafter give his personal attention to the business.”
On May 25, 1909, the Majestic Theatre Co. of Salt Lake City announced they had purchased the Grand Theatre and planned a remodeling and reopening on or about May 31. Sanborn Maps 1908 show the location as 76 Academy Avenue, or today’s Wells Fargo Bank, two buildings away from the skating rink site which became the Academy Theatre.
The Majestic Theatres in Provo and Salt Lake City were still listed in the American Motion Picture Directory 1914-15.
