Located in Easington Colliery, County Durham. The Empire Theatre was opened in 1911. In September 1912 alterations were made which enlarged the building to 1,200-seats. The proscenium was 28ft wide, the stage 20ft deep and there were five dressing rooms. In 1929 it was equipped with an Edibell sound system.
The Empire Theatre presented cine-variety and by 1937 a Western Electric(WE) sound system had been installed. The Empire Theatre was opened & closed sporadically through the 1940’s and into the 1950’s when there were plans proposed to rebuild it. By 1958 it had been equipped with a GB-Kalee sound system. The rebuild plans never happened and from the end of 1961 it became a bingo club. It was eventually demolished.
