The Oak Harbor Theatre Company, a subsidiary of the Lion Theatre Company of Bellevue opened the Erie Theatre in downtown Port Clinton on September 1, 1936. It also operated the Royal Theatre in Oak Harbor. It changed from a second-run theatre to a first-run house with all new equipment by year’s end when the operators of the Madrid Theatre took over the operation.

The Erie Theatre was reduced to three-day a week operation by Harry D. Callahan in April of 1951. It was closed for the summer then permanently following showing on June 22, 1952 of Roy Rogers in “Apache Rose” and George and Bert Bernard in “Gobs and Gals”. It did not reopen and the space became a long running home to the Fraternal Order of Eagles which still occupied the building in the 2020’s.
