Idle Picture House

Located in the district of Idle, to the north of Bradford. The Idle Picture House opened on 12th January 1912 with Charles Sutton in “The Doomed Ship”. The auditorium ran parallel to eastern side of Bradford Road and had seating in stalls and balcony levels. It had a 23ft wide proscenium. By 1920 it was operated by Thomas Thornton and around 1930 it was equipped with a British Acoustic(BA) sound system. Around 1955 it was equipped with CinemaScope, but with mono sound. The Idle Picture House was closed on 7th February 1959 with Laurence Harvey in “The Silent Enemy”.

In 1961 it re-opened as the Ace Bingo Club. The building was demolished around 1970/1971 and retirement flats now occupy the site.
