Located in Winlaton, to the west of Gateshead, County Durham. The Rex Cinema was opened on 22nd November 1937 with Binkie Stuart in “Rose of Tralee”. Seating 547 on a stadium plan, with a raised stepped section at the rear, rather than the usual overhanging circle. There were 373-seats in the stalls and 174-seats in the raised section. It was equipped with a Western Electric(WE) sound system.

In 1954 it was extended at the rear, adding another 208 seats to the raised section. It was closed in 1967 and was converted into a bingo club. It was later closed and the building was demolished in 2008 and a block of flats now occupy the site.
