Cosy Cinema

In Topsham, Devon, in 1921, Major Gould opened the Cosy Cinema in what had been the Victory Hall (which is thought to have originated as a chapel).

Shows only appear to have been given on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The silent films were accompanied by Miss Gladys Green and Mrs Drew on the piano. Fred Hoyle was the chief projectionist.

The Cosy Cinema was relatively short-lived. It was closed by Major Gould in 1928 when he moved his film shows to the newly built Matthews Hall (see separate Cinema Treasures entry).

The building became a surgical glove factory, but has since been converted into housing.
