In the small Norfolk town of Watton, situated between Dereham and Thetford, the Royal Picture Palace is listed in the 1914 Kinematograph Year Book. No address is given; the entry only records that it was operated by F. Garner.

By the 1927 edition Mr Garner is listed as operating the People’s Electric Cinema, with resident manager J. Swan. Although again no address was recorded, it is believed these names refer to the same cinema, which operated from a wooden building near the old railway station on Norwich Road.

By the 1931 edition “Pictures and Variety” are being advertised, utilising a 16ft deep stage and two dressing rooms. No sound system is listed, however, and the People’s Electric Cinema is shown as “Closed” in the 1935 edition.

It was demolished in 1973, but its precise location has not been determined.
