Lunar Drive-In

On November 12, 1949, Boxoffice said that the new Lunar Outdoor Theatre had opened in Lake City, showing “Mickey” starring Louis Butler. It was owned by A. E. Cannon, Cannon Theatre chain, and could accommodate 300 cars.

The 1955-56 Theatre Catalog included the Lunar Drive-In, capacity 200 cars, owner R. E. Cannon, Cannon Th. Co.

The April 22, 1963 issue of Boxoffice reported that a tornado had destroyed Bob Cannon’s Lunar Drive-In’s screen tower on April 12.

A 1965 topo map showed a drive-in north-northwest of Lake City. It was still intact in a 1983 aerial photo, but was gone by 1994.

The property is now an open field. There is no trace of the drive-in remaining except for the remnants of the entrance road on the south side of the property.
