Picturedrome

In the small town and cargo port of Hayle, in west Cornwall, the Picturedrome opened in the Public Hall around 1912. It was operated by H. Burrows, who founded the West of England Cinemas circuit in 1913.

The Picturedrome was situated on the first floor, and had a stage, measuring 28ft by 14ft, which was used for occasional variety shows.

It is not known when the Picturedrome closed, but this is thought to have been soon after World War I. (Perhaps not coincidentally, in this small town, the Copperhouse Cinema - see separate Cinema Treasures entry - opened in the early-1920’s.)

At some stage the first floor was removed from the Public Hall. The ground floor has been occupied by Lloyds Bank for many years.
