Regal Cinema

Located in Stonehouse to the west of Stroud, Gloucestershire. The first Regal Cinema in this small town had a short life, operating for only 4 years before it was destroyed by a fire (it has its own page on Cinema Treasures).

Its operator A.F. Stratford built a new Regal Cinema at a different location on Gloucester Road. It opened in 1937 and like its predecessor on Laburnum Walk, it was equipped with a British Thomson-Houston(BTH) sound system. It had a 16ft wide proscenium and a shallow stage. The proscenium was remodelled to 22ft wide in 1955 when CinemaScope was installed. The Regal Cinema was closed around 1961. It is not certain whether it converted to use as a bingo club. In 2021 a Texaco petrol station stands on the site.
