Plaza Twin

Located on Highway 17. The single-screener Sanford Plaza Rocking Chair Theatre opened its doors on April 27, 1968 with the smash “Planet Of The Apes”. One decade later, it was renamed the Sanford Plaza Theatre (or the Plaza Theatre for short, which became its primary name later on) in 1978.

One of the most remarkable moments about the Plaza Theatre is when “E.T.” arrived at the Plaza in 1982. The film began stunting at the Plaza, running for a grand total of 39 weeks. Visitors from Orlando had travelled to Sanford for the showing throughout its time. Exactly months right after its stunting run, it was twinned the following year, renaming again as the Plaza Twin in 1983.

But in September 1991, the theatre ran its last films and closed its doors for the final time.
