Regent Theatre

1929 colorized view from the Town Hall clock tower shows the Central Station clock tower and Anthony Hordern’s tower at top right. Centre right is the newly built Regent, with one of its two roof goblets partially obscuring the soon to be demolished (making way for the Plaza) white Hoyts Deluxe across the road. In the centre we see the white fronted Crystal Palace building, with an electric moving image of Charlie Chaplin - which had been installed by Union Theatres in 1916. In 1938 this cinema would be reconstructed to create Hoyts Century Theatre. Intersection of George Street and Bathurst Street Sydney, 1929 //archives.cityofsydney.nsw.gov.au/nodes/view/676786
