Madrid Theatre

The original Madrid Theatre opened in 1926 and was destroyed by the Northridge earthquake in 1994. It has its own page on Cinema Treasures.

A new Madrid Theatre was built on the site. Seating is provided for 430, with 338-seats in the orchestra and 92-seats in the balcony. It is operated by the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs.

LA’s only Zombie Ballet returns to the stage! Presented by LPBC since 2017, “Sweet Sorrow, A Zombie Ballet,” was created by Artistic Director Leigh Purtill for those who have a dark romantic soul and an intense desire to experience the underworld.

“Sweet Sorrow, A Zombie Ballet”, will include live on-stage performances and short films featuring LPBC company dancers from around the world. Together, they’ll take you back to the funeral of Romeo and Juliet, the star-crossed lovers, and tell you the rest of the story. You’ll follow Juliet’s cousin Rosaline through the underworld, as she encounters lost souls, vampires, zombies, werewolves and a mighty Raven Queen.
