Avalon Theatre

Arnulfo Gonzales converted his Gonzales Gymnasium into a movie theatre that launched on June 5, 1942. The Avalon Theatre played Spanish-language features. The theatre was dynamited by an arsonist on October 9, 1954 along with a drive-in that Gonzales was building.

The Avalon Theatre was repaired but then totally destroyed by a much larger dynamite blast less than four months later on February 5, 1955 ending the theatres' run. It wasn’t known if the criminals were upset over non-union projectionists or the playing of Spanish-language films.
