The Boulevard Theatre was Louisiana’s pre-eminent theatre for African-American audiences outside of New Orleans. The city boasted an African-American population in the area of 8,000 and the 700-seat theatre hosted live acts and motion pictures. Nirdlinger and Mancuso operated and booked the theatre which drew large crowds in the 1910’s. The address is a bit of a guess as Boulevard Avenue changed names but is based on cross streets listed back in the day. Unfortunately, the theatre burned down on September 24, 1920.
