The previous Alamo Theatre in town had been equipped for talkies in 1930 but was destroyed by a tornado on April 10, 1947. Mr. and Mrs. Jake Sells rebuilt the new Alamo Theatre reopening with Esther Williams in “Fiesta” on December 22, 1947. The cream colored brick building had brand new projection and Higgins Mayor Warren Jenkins not only thanked the Sells but invited the previous / first theatre owners in town, Mr. and Mrs. Word. The second Alamo Theatre burned down, completely destroyed in a fire occurring April 4th, 1953.
