The Palace Theatre was launched as a movie house by H.E. ‘Fred’ Smith on June 30, 1919 with Marguerite Marsh in “The Eternal Magdalene”. The roof burned in February of 1920 leading to temporary closure. The theatre reopened under H.M. Britten’s ownership as the Orpheum Theatre on June 15, 1920 with Bebe Daniels in “Every Woman”.

In December of 1920, the venue was renamed the Palace Theatre under new operator R.D. Howell who owned other Oklahoma theatres. Snow then weakened the roof in February of 1921 closing the venue again. Howell sold the seats to a high school for their auditorium and the building became a self-service grocery store.
