H.B. Thomas Opera House

This building was constructed in 1911, and is a wide and deep two story brick building. The ground floor was originally divided into two storefronts, and the auditorium was located on the second floor. The entry to the auditorium may have been by the external stairs on the east side.

By February 1916, movies were being shown here, but the 1923 map shows the upstairs simply as a ‘Hall’. The building today is in rather precarious shape, with some of the upstairs windows coming apart. The ground floor looks like it was remodeled sometime around World War II. The building appears vacant.

Apparently, this building replaced an older theater (probably live only) which had burned.

Moving Picture World of February 19, 1916 had this item: “The Thomas Opera House of Horse Cave, Ky., has been re-opened and is now showing the Paramount features on Friday and Saturday nights, two shows being given each of these evenings.”
