Crab Orchard’s Howard Theatre was named by the owners, Mr. and Mrs. Hamp Howard, and opened its doors in early-1947.
Along with the Gray Theatre in Brodhead, both theatres were operated by the Roaden Theatres Incorporated shortly after Mr. Dan Gray left the Gray Theatre in Brodhead in frustration on the city’s tax law in 1950.
The Howard Theatre closed for the final time on November 21, 1964. It was demolished in September 1992.
