Old Layton Theater, main entrance

Built c.1936, it operated into the mid-1970’s. Afterwards it briefly served as a church. The roof collapsed in a snowstorm in February 1987. It was demolished later that year (though the 3-story apartment adjacent still stands). Today it is an empty lot in the northeast corner of the intersection of Laws Street & Delaware Avenue. I have photos which I will attach shortly.

This theater was owned by a family by the name of Ayers (at least at some point in its history). They owned a theater by the same name (Layton) in Seaford. At some point the Bridgeville theater was also known as “The Sidney”.
