Ealing Project Cinema (Official)
Functions: Movies (First Run)
Located in the west London borough of Ealing, the Ealing Project was devised by “community connections” company the Really Local Group, which had already opened similar ventures in the south-east London borough of Catford (Catford Mews) and in Reading, Berkshire, (Reading Biscuit Factory) - see separate Cinema Treasures entries.
The Ealing Project is open from 10.30am-11pm daily. It is located on the ground floor of the Ealing Broadway shopping centre, between Marks & Spencer’s and Costa Coffee, in premises previously occupied by the Karma Club. The transformation of this 15,000sq ft space was overseen by Wren Architects and Utility Projects.
It is self-described as a “multi-functional community space for the Borough of Ealing and beyond” which will eventually comprise a three-screen cinema, café, bar, community room, a stage for live music performance and space to exhibit art by local artists.
Ealing Project Cinema opened on Thursday 30th June 2022 with two of the three screens operational: Screen 2, with 100 seats, and Screen 3, with 61 seats. The opening films were children’s favourite “Minions: The Rise of Gru” and Austin Butler and Tom Hanks in the biopic “Elvis”. The 102-seat Screen 1 opened in August 2022.
