Akebono Theater

Owned by Hanjiro Kawai, the Akebono Theatre was built in 1917 and up until World War II, there was a sign in English and another one with Japanese characters that read “Akebono Za Gekijo” (theatre).

The theatre showed contemporary films, along with Japanese and Filipino films. Decades later the theatre was used for live performances until it burned to the ground exactly 100 years later in 2017.
