The town of Ashland, Nebraska lost its Neu Theatre when fire gutted it in the early morning on December 19, 1951. Operator Woodrow “Woody” Simek decided to build a new venue across the street. And it got off to a great start launching as the Circle A Theatre on “Circle A Day” as proclaimed on January 17, 1953 by Mayor K.B. Harris. A double feature was sold out with Bob Hope in “Son of Paleface” and Will Rogers Jr. in “The Story of Will Rogers”.

But the business trailed off quickly as the need for a small town movie theatre had lessened in the television age. In October of 1956, Simek dismantled the theatre selling the theatre seats to Joe Liska’s Niobara Theatre. The building was repurposed as a retail location.
