Marionaire Drive-In

This theatre was located about four miles west of Marion. It opened in 1950 with the re-release of “Boomtown”, it was operated by Alliance Theater Corp. Sitting on the corner of a corn field, the theatre was the hot spot for the 1950’s and into the 1970’s. The theatre fell to the times, as most drive ins do and closed.

Driving by, it is once again a corn field with the only landmark present to even suggest anything was ever there is an old neon entry sign…rusted…still standing. This theatre was not owned by Kerasotes, the chain was hired for management.

On Google Maps, the address is 3072 W Delphi Pike Marion, IN. Today, the land is private property, but you can still see the faint outline of ramps in the fields north of the house. http://tinyurl.com/zedf2bc

The Marionaire was still hopping in the mid-seventies, when I was in high school. I think it hung on into the early eighties, a few years into the video era. The last movie I saw there might have been the great, little-known SLAUGHTERHOUSE FIVE.

There does not appear to be any trace of an old neon sign left on the property.
