Harry Pocock opened the Bijou Dream Theatre January 14, 1908, with a notice in the Daily Press, ‘Meet me at the Bijou Dream Tuesday and Wednesday’.

As reported in the Iowa City Citizen, beginning on November 29, 1908, the Bijou Dream Theatre opened on Sunday numerous times, was reprimanded by the city and paid a few fines. After April 15, 1909, the Bijou Dream Theatre was bought by Duffy Raymond who gave his word to the county attorney that there would be no more shows on the Sabbath.

On May 9, 1912, the Bijou Dream Theatre closed and on June 1 owner William H. Englert was removing the equipment and seats from the Bijou Dream Theatre to place in his new Airdome to be located on College Street.

Today Jimmy John’s is located in the old Bijou Dream Theatre building and according to Sanborn Maps 1912, facing the building from the street, the Bijou Dream Theatre operated in the left side of the building.
