August Dabel opened the 380-seat American Theatre March 27, 1936, with Bing Crosby in “Anything Goes”.

The theatre was destroyed in 1974 when the roof caved in because of heavy snow build-up.

August Dabel also operated the American Theatre in nearby Afton from 1925 to 1935, which was purchased by C.S. Wray before he opened the Wray Theatre in July 1935.

The Star Valley Historical Society reports the theatre was located north of the Brass Rail saloon.
