Cineplex Odeon Lakeforest 5 Cinemas

Lakeforest Mall opened theatre-less on September 12, 1978 with four anchors and a skating rink as some of its features. But the skating rink was replaced by a five-plex built by the Neighborhood Theatre Inc. Circuit in 1984. The NTI Lakeforest 5 was later taken over by the Cineplex Odeon Circuit.

The Lakeforest 5 closed permanently in January of 2001 unable to compete in the megaplex era.The mall operator transformed the former skating rink turned cinema into a $5 million food court called “Cafes in the Forest.” The Lakeforest went into descent toward “greyfield status” - a term akin to a dead mall. The complex was thrice sold going from a $100 million property to an auctioned property sold for less than $20 million between 2012 and 2017.

The Lakeforest was sold in 2019 and the owner decided to steer the property to closure and demolish it. Three anchors bolted and the final anchor, Macy’s, went out of business on March 18, 2023 leading to the closure of the entire mall. The venue’s 2024 demolition would bring about a new use for the property.
