DeWitt Drive-In

The DeWitt Drive-In opened on July 8, 1950 with Maria Montez in “Sudan” & Jon Hall in “Arabian Nights”. It closed in 1984. It was owned by Cinema National and had a capacity for 800 cars.

Here is an ad from the Syracuse Herald Journal dated 7/10/50:

OPENS NIGHTLY 7:30 P.M.

Only a ten-minute drive from Salina Street.

Boo! They tore down this drive-in and put in a shopping center with a Price Chopper. Right down the street was an old style McDonald’s (1950’s style with giant yellow arches) that got torn down around the same time, summer 1984.

The DeWitt Drive-in opened on July 8, 1950. It’s final season was in 1984.

No one seems to know the opening date except me. It opened on July 8th, 1950. I uploaded the grand opening for all to see.
