Two screens on November 17th, 1976. Another grand opening ad posted.
Was here once with a couple of friends. Cashier looked to be twelve years old and assumed we all were seniors.

Does anyone remember the world premiere for the horror movie DAY OF THE DEAD happening here? (UA Hicksville, Marie street) The date of the showing was June 30th, 1985.
This theater showed midnight movies in the late 80’s. I remember seeing The Wall, Heavy Metal, and Song Remains the Same. I recall people smoking, tossing beer cans at the screen, etc. Good times.
I went here with some friends when it was still a single screen. The cashier, who must have been ten years old, ha ha, asked if we wanted the senior rate. Although now I’m overqualified, I, and we, weren’t then.

I saw “A Hard Day’s Night” here in 1964…the girls were screaming so loudly, the manager went over the PA to try to quiet everyone down, threatening to turn off the movie! I’ll never forget both the greatness of the movie, as well as the pandemonium!
The Hicksville had the marvelous style of the old time theaters. Even though it was mostly a second run house showing double features for 75 cents to $1, it has a sculpted ceiling and assorted gingerbread and tapestry curtains. As a kid it was fun to browse at the Trading Post next door.
To the person who recently put two photos on this theatre. Wrong theatre. They were of the theatre listed on CT as Fox Plaza Twin. That theatre was originally known as Mid-Island Plaza Twin North and South. The first picture you put up showed a portion of the Twin North signage. The second picture was the auditorium in on of these. You can tell by how new it looked. I don’t recall the former Hicksville, subsequently twin, ever looking new even when they put in the dividing wall. The pictures have been deleted from this, the incorrect site, but the CT people can’t load them where they belong. That is up to you. No need to respond. When I see the pictures in place I’ll remove this comment. Thanks.
A few before and after photos of the Hicksville Theatre remodeling of ca.1956 appeared in Boxoffice, February 2, 1957. The project was designed for Prudential Theatres by architect Maurice D. Sornik.
Judging from the original facade, this theater must have been built in the 1920s or earlier.
Sorry for the misinformation I gave about three years ago. limovies is totally correct. Star Wars opened at the Hicksville Fox Plaza North and South. Sources list it as a Mann Theater at the time.

XXX theatre you are thinking of was not Hicksville, it was in westbury called the Salisbury. Played skin flicks for as long as I remember
Even back in the late 60’s and early 70', this place was considered a “dump”. But it was cheap – one of the first, if I recall correctly, that offered double features for a dollar. My friends and I rode bikes over there, and used to chain them to the stairs behind the theater. I saw so many great movies in this house (and I’m talking about before it was “twinned”): They Shoot Horses, Don’t They?; Pretty Poison; a double bill of Thunderball and You Only Live Twice; Live and Let Die (paired with a forgotten spy film called Scorpio, with Burt Lancaster and Alain Delon); Barry Lyndon; The Night Porter (well, that was a stinker – but I do remember seeing it here).
Last time I was there was for My Cousin Vinnie, I think .
I remember the Hicksville Twin Theater was were I first saw “2001: A Space Odyssey” in either 1968 or ‘69, I can’t recall which as I was only 8 and 9 years old then. I also recall seeing a double feature of “The Ghost and Mr. Chicken” and “The Reluctant Astronaut” there in 1969 or '70, and later “Tora! Tora! Tora! and much later "Star Wars” on opening day in 1977.
Worked here in the sixties before UA twinned it. Was still a Prudential Theater. The manager was a cigar smoking drunk I think his name Mr Pinkingham, spent more time in the bar down the street than at the theater. I remember Ray Wheeler was the regular projectionist there for many years. Many happy times then. Anybody remember when they had a live stage show there called “Weekend at the Apollo”?. Have many great memories there.

Yes this theater was the old movie theater across from the fire station. The first movie I seen in my life was the Ten commandments.
Next to the theater was a underground stairway the went under the building to a back parking lot. A few doors down was the “Hicksville trading post”. I new the owner “Sam” kind of an old crabby man.
This theatre is located on East Marie Street across from the Fire Department. The one you all are thinking about is located on Broadway that was a twin and then converted to a six-plex in 1984. That one was called the Hicksville RKO Century Twin before 1984 and Mid-Plaza Sixplex after 1984, until it closed, sadly, in September 1989.
The famous thing about the UA Hicksville Twin on East Marie Street is that is played the Rocky Horror Picture Show for many, many years on Fridays and Saturdays at Midnight. In the late 1990s, this theatre played exclusively Indian movies.
