One of the many theatres built in Kansas City designed by architectural firm Boller Brothers. The Warwick Theatre opened on September 26, 1914 in Colonial Revival style. It seated 1,022 on two floors. One of the noted aspects in its decoration was the rich red velvet draperies that adorned the stage and the matching seating material. In 1927 it suffered damage from a fire. Reopened following repairs, the Warwick Theatre closed May 24, 1953 with Ethel Merman in “Call Me Madame” & Van Johnson in “Confidentially Connie”.
It became a Salvation Army thrift store. In November 2015 it was announced that the theatre had been purchased by the Metropolitan Ensemble Theatre Company and it reopened as a live theatre and operated for five years. It suffered extensive damage by a fire which occurred at the rear of the theatre on February 5, 2024. Costumes, the electrical system and dressing rooms were destroyed.

I believe this building is owned by the same owner as the Uptown in KC, MO. Until recently the Warwick housed Soreal Design which has now moved. The building is currently for sale or lease-

I’ve heard this is mostly stripped inside & not much representing a theatre is left because it held a department type store at one time. Looking through the window it seems to have a concession stand counter, though if it is original or retro-fitted I don’t know.

The google street view indicates “Soreal Design” is located there, and the ariel view says “City in Motion School of Dance” . At least it’s occupied, and the front facade (a nice classical romanesque design) looks in great shape.
…so it’s not Soreal design, the comment above says that moved. But the signs are still there. So is it vacant or has something else moved in I wonder.
