CEDAR SPRINGS, MI — “The Cedar Springs Theatre Association and the Cedar Springs Public Library are very pleased to announce that international concert pianist Waleed Howrani will be returning to the area to perform a concert of classical and jazz music. The concert is scheduled for Sunday afternoon May 15, 2005 at 4:00 p.m., at the Kent Theatre, located in the heart of Cedar Springs at 8 North Main Street.

There is an afterglow reception following the concert at the Cedar Springs Public Library located at 43 West Cherry Street. We hope that many residents in the north Kent County and south Montcalm County areas will come to hear this fine artist.

Awarded the Certificate of Honor at the Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition at the age of eighteen and the Laureate in the Queen Elizabeth of Belgium Competition two years later, Waleed Howrani established early his credentials as a significant new talent. This was confirmed by subsequent concert tours in the former U.S.S.R., East and West Europe, the Middle East, as well as in Canada and the United States.

Mr. Howrani has been a longtime fan of Cedar Springs and recognizes the importance of the Library and the Theatre in the community. This will be his third return to the Cedar Springs area. His previous two appearances (in 1996 and 1998) were wonderfully successful, and we expect an even greater response when his fans return to hear him again.

The concert proceeds will benefit the Cedar Springs Public Library’s funding drive to add new books to their audio book collection, and the Cedar Springs Theatre Association restoration of the “Kent Theatre Fund”. Both programs focus on providing community service to Cedar Springs and surrounding areas with family-oriented and socially relevant programming.

“Critics worldwide have justifiably sung their praises for Howrani. His technical command, close attention to minute details, and lucid interpretive powers are buoyed by a poetic sensitivity that is at once refined and free-spirited. ”
