Watch a compelling 30 minute video charting the history of one of the world’s oldest working cinemas – The Victoria Theatre, Auckland, New Zealand. This video features the story of American John Benwell (from California) and the history of the cinema he built while living in Devonport in 1912.
Included are stories from people who worked at the cinema during its heyday and the campaign to stop it being pulled down to make way for housing and a car park. Among others, the film features musician and composer Tim Finn and many magical Hollywood film clips and drive-in commercials.
Filmed in the beautiful town of Devonport this video is a must for any fan of the history of the cinema and those wanting to get a glimps of New Zealand’s history.
