Flooded Wisconsin theater still closed

REEDSBURG, WI — The city is concerned that the renovation of the flood-damaged Star Cinema is going much slower than expected.

The Kerasotes theater chain took over the theater from the Star Cinema chain last February 1st. On June 9th, the Baraboo River overflowed its banks after storms dumped more than seven inches of rain.

Chicago-based Kerasotes cleaned out the building, keeping the city from condemning it, but it has been five months of virtually no observable repair. Upon pressure from the city, the company has started bringing in new seating purchased from an old theater that was converted into a church.

A Kerasotes spokesperson had no information on the project. The city was told the company wants to reopen the theater, but no timetable was offered.

What a terrible thing to happen! Here’s hoping that the city will come through and give some funding for the renovation and re-opening of the theatre.
