Hmm- you’re right about Widow’s Peak. Sorry about that!

I could have sworn that was the first movie of the sneak. Now I’m gonna be wracking my brain trying to remember.

When the Loews Village opened in 1991, it had the distinction of being the most expensive theatre per seat ever constructed. Loews paid a fortune for the site, and the unusual (at the time) multi-level layout necessitating a more complicated structural framing system and the many needed escalators were given as reasons for the high cost.

Widows' Peak came out in 1994. But I’m not bothering you, it’s a good story anyway.

I remember going to this theater the day it opened to see Thelma and Louise with two of my friends. We then snuck into Drop Dead Fred and then pushed our luck further and snuck into Truth or Dare. It began a long history of the “movie sneak” for me, as this was probably the easiest theater in which to auditorium hop. One Sunday in ‘92, my friend and I paid to see Widow’s Peak in the early afternoon, then snuck into Twin Peaks-Fire Walk With Me and a third film. On our way out, Bob Roberts was about to begin. We looked at each other, shrugged and walked in, only the theater was almost completely sold out. The only seats available were in the front row, so we decided to leave. An usher saw us leaving and asked what was wrong. We told him there were no seats and he said- well, give me your tickets and we’ll refund you. Don’t just leave. So I made this elaborate show of trying to find my tickets, pretended I’d left them in a bathroom stall, went into the bathroom for a few minutes, then came out with a disgusted face and said that someone was “occupying” the stall. So the usher took us downstairs (at this point, we were mortified and just wanted to flee, but this kid was tenacious) brought us to the manager, explained the situation, and the manager very kindly gave us passes for the next showing.

I wound up moving right across the street from the theater shortly thereafter and frequented it for the 8 years until I moved to LA.

The theatre opened on May 24th, 1991 with Thelma and Louise (on 2 screens, one in THX), An Angel At My Table, a reissue of Citizen Kane, Madonna: Truth Or Dare, Drop Dead Fred and Wild Hearts Can’t Be Broken.

They sometimes play indies for short runs before the DVD or if it’s a special run (Citizen Kane was a premiere engagement in 1991). Remember The Daze (aka The Beautiful Ordinary) was a co-production of First Look Studios and Freestyle Releasing. It’s now on DVD.

I’ve never heard of a movie called REMEMBER THE DAZE but Thank You!
This list has only movies that I know. The references to this list are MicroFilm, The New York Times, www.fandango.com, and 1-800-FANDANGO

You left out an indie called Remember The Daze which opened on April 4th or April 11th. It ran for a week to promote the DVD release.

I hope someone responds to my long list of movies that were shown at the LOEWS VILLAGE 7 (formerly VILLAGE VII) I liked the roman numeral
“VII” because it goes woth the theater name VILLAGE a lot more than
the number “7” because the usage of the number “7” is confusing to me now.

After 17 years, this theater is standing strong on its feet
and the VILLAGE VII ( aka VILLAGE 7) is one of my absolute
favorite theaters in MYC today.

Ed Solero

I’ve seen the theater currently advertised with either the number “7” in its name or the Roman numeral “VII”. I opted to list it with the “7” because this is how AMC lists it on their own website. However, the old Loews signage, which still exists on the building, uses the “VII”. Here are a pair of images from the cinematour website:
