The marquee was on the building of The Listening Room. Doing some research it appears The Listening Room moved to a different location, and on their website they state that the mural was up until 2014 and they have a video of the lighting ceremony. Going down to street view I cannot locate the marquee anywhere so it appears that this one is lost.

Love looking at the current and Historic Aerials of this DI. It’s a driving range now, but the remnants of two other drive-ins are on the other side of the street just south of this one, including one that was a twin. Three drive-ins all within two tenths of a mile of each other.
Google Street view from August of 2015 shows the marquee still there, but the bulbs, the word MAIN and the place to hold the letters are now gone, and some damage has exposed the light bulbs on one side.
Site has never been developed, all structures appear to have been torn down except the marquee. The marquee is VERY difficult to see, October 2015 Google Street view shows a sign half buried in trees, and it is actually covering the original marquee. Only way I figured it out is from the picture here on CT, showing the circle in the upper left hand corner. That part is visible sticking out of the sign that is covering it.
Address should be 237 N. Angola Road, Coldwater MI. The address above is for S. Angola and directs you to nothing pertaining to this DI. 237 N. Angola will put you at the business that is now on the property. Ramps are still faintly visible. A 1955 Historic Aerial shows a functioning Drive In.
There was. It was created in 1910 as a private camp for the employees of the Joseph Horne Dry Goods Company. That company went on to become the Hornes Department Store chain. The camp is now Avonworth Community Park.
Pocahontas was over 1,000 miles away in the Jamestown Virginia area. She then moved to London, England with her colonist husband, then died on the return trip to the colonies. She was never anywhere near this area during her lifetime.
David, go to HistoricAerials.com and punch in the addresses you see on Cinema Treasures. A lot of times you might be able to answer your own questions :) In looking back on that site it doesn’t appear that there was ever a drive in adjacent to the one in the photo.
No it is not. With street realignments and name changes the address listed above is no longer correct. What was once Gordon Drive West at the point of the drive in is now War Eagle Drive. The correct address is now 4130 War Eagle Dr, Sioux City, IA 51109. This puts you at the Jehovah Witness church which is on the property that once housed the Twin. There are other businesses there as well. Historic Aerials from 1955 and 1971 show a functioning twin drive in. After that point it is slowly taken over by various businesses, but even in today’s current Google aerial you can still make out faint outlines of the ramps.
Well, in clicking on the photos tab, you will see a newspaper article. Clicking on this article to enlarge it you will see the the drive-in was located between Cedar Rapids and Marion. This would put it between those two cities. Old English use of the word “between” was “betwixt.” The owners of the drive-in apparently just shortened it to “Twixt.” Thus the drive-in was located twixt the two towns.
Nice find! If you drop down to Google Street view on 270th street, there is a strangely shaped sign, triangle, that may have been the marquee. It is VERY old and there really would be no other reason for it. You can’t miss it, it’s right behind the Iowa State Trooper that is clocking speeders!
Address is correct but maps about 2 blocks northeast of the actual building. It is now the Mt. Wolf Community Church. There isn’t a street view of it but there are two pictures on Google Maps, one of the exterior and one of the interior of the church and they are showing a movie, but not on the original screen which appears to be gone unless it was really small.

The Foundation for the Projection Booth is still there, and there are two steel poles by where the entrance once was that could have held the marquee.

Because it was just east of the Scioto River. Scioto is an Iroquois Indian word meaning “Deer.”
