Before “Victoria & Abdul” began in October, there had been a September closing for a couple weeks. All seats were reupholstered & new carpets were installed, too. I don’t need recliner chairs & since there’s many premieres & special events that need the full seating capacity, just as well since recliners greatly reduce the number of seats. Until then, in the balcony, seats in side sections were a darker color. Now all seats have the same color as the curtain. Yesterday, I enjoyed “Lean on Pete” which began its 1st week at the Paris.The Paris website lists as coming: “The Seagull” May 11, “Gauguin- Voyage de Tahiti” July 11 and “The Wife” Aug 3.
This year marks 70 years since this theater opened. It is the oldest art house theater in NYC that is still operating.

whoever books films for the Paris knows their stuff. the last few years whatever Oscar bait film opened in Nov. usually stays till the beginning' of April.
The closing of the Lincoln plaza multiplex will impact this theater a lot.
I agree. AMC really started this trend where I live especially for imax and dolby showings. Standard seating is still available for other screens.
Roadshows were special, and meant to be that way. It’s only in recent times that standard movie runs in the U.S. have adopted reserved seating. And it’s about time. I’m very happy about it. Like I said, “FINALLY!!!”
Reserved seating first debuted in USA for road show releases during the golden age of Hollywood but it took awhile for mainstream cinema chains to accept it.
Reserved seating is AWESOME!!!! Thank you City Cinemas for reserved seating! General admission seating is for animals! Reserved seating is great! Reserve your tickets and seats in advance, and donkt worry about standing in line or having to get there early! It’s the civilized way to see a film, and reserved seating has long been the norm internationally. Finally the U.S. catches up. I’m very pleased with this. It’s the way all cinemas should be!
Am not a fan of reserved seating, especially at a place like the Paris. For one, it slows the ticket line down. As well, I like to sit in the balcony but sometimes the older patrons here doze off and snore so then I move downstairs.
That stinks. Pretty soon every theater will have it. Manhattan is very high volume compared to the jersey suburbs . No wonder why more people are watching movies at home instead of heading out to a movie.

i went to see Victoria and Abdul the day after it opened which I enjoyed a great deal but. i find the new reserve seating policy annoying. when i got on line it went from the box office to the corner of the Bergdorf Goodman building. because there’s only one ticket seller and you have to pick a seat from the little screen it took forever to get from the corner of the BG building to the box office. if the theater was looking for a way to raise prices just do so. the reserved seat policy is a waste of time.
There is reserved seating and a slightly higher ticket price ($17, which I believe is a buck or two higher than before) accompanying the re-opening.
Hopefully they would at least update the cushioning on the seats as those have seen some wear and tear and are not the most comfortable, but yes they should still keep the classic movie palace feel, including continuing their use of curtains which open with the previews before each show.
I asked in person yesterday. Just cleaning, no major changes (thankfully).

The Paris Theatre will be Closed for Maintenance from Monday 9/11/17 through Thursday 9/21/17. Is this the only remaining single screen theater owned by a major chain left in Manhattan? Seems so.
As a youngster I went to to the Paris theatre with my family many times. Many enjoyable memories.
The movie “Lion” opened late November at the Paris & is still being showcased here! Paris website lists a new movie opening April 7, “Their Finest”
Anyone who wishes to see Howard’s End must do so soon as in its 2nd & last week. On opening night, director Ivory appeared. Website states “Come What May” (2015) opens Friday Sept 9 with Director Christian Carion & actor Matthew Rhys Q & A after the 7 PM show & with Carion after the 7 PM Saturday 9-10 show. Another movie “A Man Called Ove” starts Sept 30
4K restoration of Howard’s End at The Paris looks and sounds amazing! Go see it there!
Seth, what you are speaking about? I not only couldn’t find Madre Mia on Internet as opening as this theater, but I telephoned the Paris today again, as I had last week. As stated above, Howard’s End is next.
According to the City Cinemas web site Madre Mia opening August 5th This theatre is hard to book for and pictures here deserve at least a month if not more
The Paris is still showing “Love and Friendship” which has been showing all summer. The next movie will be 25th Anniversary of Merchant & Ivory’s “Howard’s End” the end of August. This film played here on it’s original release March of 92. “Cafe Society” is playing at the Cinema 1.
No recliners nor reserved seating nor as far as I am concerned do I need them. The movie operator has them at their nearby City Cinemas 1,2,3.
Does this theater have recliners and reserved seating?
