That was my neighborhood theater and I saw more movies there than I can count. As someone mentioned, DiFara is down the street and so was Joy Fong. Bonaparte’s was on Avenue M, near the old Elm theater. Unfortunately, the end for the Midwood really happened in 1978 when the “Animal House riot” happened. After that, things spiraled downhill quickly.

The picture sure looks like the beloved 8th Street Playhouse. Aside from going to multiple screenings of “Rocky Horror”, Vestron films held several premieres there. I had the “pleasure” of watching “Parents” and “Lair of the White Worm” in a celebrity-packed theater. The place had character. It was also 2 doors down from the hottest recording studio and more than once while waiting for Rocky Horror or after, I saw the Stones and others coming and going.

The most insane thing I ever witnessed was opening weekend for “Jaws”. The lines snaked through Kings Plaza’s 2nd floor. Shows were sold out for hours.

In late 78 it started playing Rocky Horror on Saturday nights at midnight to packed crowds. My friends and I did the stage show in costume once. What a blast!

I remember seeing Sgt Pepper, Jaws 2 and Amityville Horror there, each on opening night. Nice little theater. Shame it’s gone.
