This is the Chapel Street entrance / exit for Loew’s College (at this time only an ‘exit’) the extended ‘over-hang’ projection booth can be seen. After decades of closure and water damage, this booth collapsed into the alley below, this led to the entire water damaged theater being demolished. The only part that remains is a small portion of the lobby on College Street which is now a retail store. A sad ending for the Hyperion Theater.

The Westville Theater survived into the 1970s – I saw Saturday Night Fever and Super Fly there. Small neighborhood second run theater in the Westville section of New Haven.

The ‘box’ marquee in this photo was replaced by the 2-sided marquee. You can see part of the stylish vertical sign that adorned the theater.

Great large space! EASY TO GET TO location right in Times Square. Watching for the next ‘sponsor’ to take over since PlayStation did not continue the lease…..How about “The Manhattan Arena” …..sounds like a great idea!

So sad to see another NYC classic theater destroyed and turned into more ‘retail’ space. Should have absolutely been restored to it’s original classic theater for movies.

Went once – what a waste of time. Theaters are so small, it’s like watching your large screen TV at home. – Well – back to the Loew’s Jersey 3200 seat Palace for some classic films on that huge screen! (wish the King’s in Brooklyn would show films from time to time)
