I would find it strange to call an apartment complex rego park gardens when it is not in rego park. Again, i lived in bayside and my post office 4 blocks away said oakland gardens station. i do not think you can go by what the post office labels its buildings as what the name of the town might be.

I lived across from lefrak city in REGO PARK gardens back in the mid ‘60s (when the area was nice) we always assumed and thought we lived in rego park. i tend to believe it is corona and always was. i think the LIE is the dividing line between rego park and corona.

lefrak is a jew .. always was… always will be..there is nothing to be ashamed of. in fact lefrak city was something like 85% jewish when it was first built in the early ‘60s. in fact most of that area was jewish at one time.

i ran across a history of the area called utopia and if i can find it again i will email it to you.

utopia is more the name of an area rather then city or town. you are right that it is quite a distance from main street flushing. i grew up in bayside and our post office said “oakland gardens”. queens is divided up into “areas or neighborhoods” that do not show up on any map. hope this did not confuse you more…

lefrak city was built in the late ‘50s and started leasing in the early '60s. i am guessing no later then 1962. Mr. lefrak was a well known builder in queens. He built most (if not all) of the 6 story buildings in rego park, forest hills.

it was called loews lefrak. i saw planet of the apes there in 1968. i lived in rego park gardens off of junction blvd. thats when the neighborhood was nice, clean and safe. times have changed.

we used to make a day of it by going bowling at utopia lanes then maybe to the deli or luncheonette for lunch and finally hitting a flick at the utopia..the whole day cost maybe $5

I have lived for over 40 yrs. in bayside (and yes our phone numbers always started with BA) and i have never seen blvd. signs..but what you said about some old signs still being around might be true..however, they would be white with blue writing because that was the queens color scheme on all road signs before all five boroughs went to the current sign color we all know today..every once in awhile i still see some old queens colored signs around..especially in quiet low density areas..

Horace Harding Expressway does not denote north or south..it never did..so that would be wrong also..however, the above poster is right..queens is never used in the address..it is always the city or town of the area of queens..like bayside, or rego park or corona etc etc…

when you let in illegal asian and middle eastern immigrants and you let them take over whole communities this is what you get…queens and especially flushing is not the place we all grew up in..you cannot expect people from other cultures to care about what we cared about..to them it is just a building and nothing more…we have ourselves to blame for all the great things we knew as young people dissappearing!!

ahhh..the century meadows..spent my youth there..great memories…75 cent matinee..the horn and hardett and the Q17 bus..however, my best memory is graduating. IS 74 and Cardoza high school both had there ceremonies there..also watching every bond film from goldfinger on up to the last roger moore film..hanging out on the balcony throwing bottle rockets also was a treat..large velvet chairs and a hugh screen..those were the days…
