The Queen Theater in the Kaimuki neighborhood of Honolulu opened in 1936. The Abbott and Costello film “It Ain’t Hay” was playing in 1943 when the first photo was taken. The theater stopped showing movies in the 1980s, and it has been in slow decline since. Efforts have been made to refurbish the theater but for now the Queen remains boarded up.
