this theatre may be a “factory” type of place but aside from the crazy friday/saturday night situations i always enjoyed going here….most theatres are crazy on weekend nights…this one was admittedly worse than usual…one friend from rochester said to me once “in rochester if you want to go to the movies, you go……here you get stuck sitting on knapp street for an hour not knowing if you’ll even get in”….but if you went during non rush hour times it was fine…i moved to brooklyn in 2000 and i miss the old UA

yea that picture of the redone kingsway building is tough to look at….in the late 80s and early 90s this theatre was admittedly a bit scary but in the best kinda scary old movie theatre kinda way…it had the fire escape type exit up high on the side of the building whcih was always the most fun way to exit, it had the cool old chandeliers, and with that extra theatre on the side you sometimes had to buy your concessions in the front lobby and then go back outside and walk down the street to get into that part of the theatre…big fun on a stormy night carrying your big bucket of popcorn down that block in the rain or snow

yea this was a great theatre especially when it had the gigantic theatre on the left side – and the lines were crazy for the blockbusters back in the day – Batman, Rocky 3 and 4, etc. – i remember sitting with my brother against the joyce leslie store waiting for them to let us in for Rocky 3 – always took the b-41 up flatbush to go here for the big movies til sheepshead bay opened and stole their thunder

i remember in the early 80’s my uncle took me to see Halloween 2 here and there was a german shepherd walking around and barking INSIDE the theatre – pretty sure i saw Flash Gordon here and Private School with Phoebe Cates – and they had the hobby hut next door to the theatre so you could hit that afterwards
