thanks for all the comments
i hear all the wonderful stories about the old cinema… i dont think it is a cvs but rather a duane reade that occupies the avalon with some ridiculous college upstairs…
i just came from my first peak at the old jewel and left after 20 minutes..
the place is cross and the creeps were everywhere..
i went upstairs to see the “regular” films and found they had japense mind numbing story of a killer mutant fish!
anyway, it sucks i always have to head over to manhattan when i want watch a decent movie!
ciao

the area isnt the worst but it certainly can get somewhat desolate at night and kinda sketchy….

i used to go here in highschool on weds when the tix were very cheap ( i think still the case). the theatre is small and actually had freinds smoke pot there on several occasion. im a born a bred brooklynite that grew up in about a mile away, near mcdonald ave…. this place is still open… i might go check it out for old times sake.. i dont ever remember it being a adult spot… but im only 25 and it could have been before my time…
i popped into cinema kingshighway to check out this old theatre and it is certainly a pornopalace… be wary of the old men crusing for somethin( unless thats your style)… i checked out a bad japanese film upstairs (they play regualr film becasue of the 60/40 law) and left after 25 minutes.
curiousity cost me $12

i just want to add, i feel this place wouild have potential. and if a little money was put into t with a cretive artistic director and someone with passion i think it could be a great addtion to an otherwise dry area…
im just a dude who hates going to manhattan everytime i want to catch a decent flick!

i went in for the first time tonight becasue i wished there was a art house cinema in my hood.
reading the history and stories of Jewel’s past made me wish the owner felt the same way!
the description of the current theatre is up to date. i saw 20 minutes of a terrible japanese voiceover mutant fish film upstairs and went into some of the straight porno screens and quicky made an exit after i saw some dude wacking off. not my business but not my taste…
anyway, do you guys think this place is going to ever play 100 percent nonporn??
and it is truly nice to have a historic theatre in the area but cant even go to unless alone and up for some old man stares….
