Killingly Center Cinemas 4

Originally owned by Hoyts Cinemas, it opened with three screens. Later one of the screens was sub-divided to make four. Went by this the other day on a cycling trip. You can almost miss it, as the sign on the side of the road, going downhill is almost invisible. It said, "$1.99 all shows until Labor Day."

The shopping plaza in front (Market and Ames) are vacant as the new plaza across the way by 395 is bristling with construction. The theater is behind the Ames and their parking lot looks creepy, even though it’s in operation. It was closed since I was there early morning. As you go up the driveway, there’s a mini-marquee on the upper right of the building, but you can miss that too.

I did look in the ticket window and saw the tally of how many people saw what movie, though.

It was closed in October 2008 and has been demolished.

Research indicates that they closed on or around October 1. Ray Welch who was operating it has gone to Oregon to operate the Florence Cinemas 5 beginning this month.

On December 2, 2006 I visited this cinema, then called Wishing Star Cinemas, to see a matinee showing of the film “Deja vu” with Denzel Washington. I remember the place as being gloomy, and the auditorium was frigid. I had to keep my coat on.
