The February 22, 1972, issue of The Escanaba Daily Press said that plans to build a new, 408-seat indoor movie theater in Manistique had been announced. Construction was to begin in April, and the operators hoped to have the house open by September. The town had been without an indoor theater since the closing of the Oak Theatre in November, 1970.

According to the website and Facebook page, this theatre is closed due to equipment failure. It appears that they cannot afford the transition to digital at this time.

The house must have closed again after its 2015 reopening, and was then reopened again in April of this year. Here is a brief item about the reopening from the Daily Press web site, dated April 16, 2016.

Could be. My info came from the theatre owner in reply to an inquiry I made.

Re-reading the item, it seems likely that the Daily Press was only reporting on the award the operators had received from the County’s Economic Development Commission, and the reopening had indeed taken place some months earlier.
