Two screens on January 24th, 1973. Grand opening ad posted.
In the mid 60’s they got My Fair Lady after it played wherever it played in AC and in 1973 they got the move over of Last Tango In Paris after the Apollo closed in early August when the lease ran out. They also had Funny Lady all summer of 1975.
I lived in in Margate from age 9 to 14 from 1979 to 1984. I remember that theater well. As kids we would sneak in that side door all the time. I remember seeing Kramer vs. Kramer but that’s about it. It was on Delavan and ventnor ave.
I have a strong memory of seeing a movie here with my father in August of 1989. I guess that would have been right before it closed?
Margate Theater and Margate Twin are the same theater. The Margate Theater was located on Ventnor Avenue. Does anyone know what the exact address was? Any other info. on this theater?

That’s WEILAND, not WETLAND. Warren Weiland was a theater owner. Someone needs For Eyes!
I worked at the Margate Theater and the projectionist taught me how to run a film through a projection machine. I was one of the “cute” candy girls that he got to mingle with when cutting through to go in/out of the booth. Wonderful old funny man named Bob, as I recall. It was owned & operated by the Franks. When I worked there in the 80s my father George Perry was the Franks General Manager of there theater chain all over New Jersey. In its place are now condos.
I moved away from margate on 6/28/1984,the last movie I saw at this Theater was Silkwood In Feb 1984 9:30? It was a Late show I moved out of the area but Had access to The Atlantic city Press In the summer of 1991 and It was Listed as open showing City Slickers and something else,I have fond memories of this Theater , It usually Had a 2PM Matinee every sat and sun I walked to the Theater In May of 1979 to watch The China syndrome,and This Is the only Time In my life I could Remember this happenning,I was the only 1 there,the must have realized It right away The Movie did not start they were still showing a preview for a Movie Called ALIEN and the woman from the box office came In and said they were not going to show a Movie for 1 person,I was 12 years old,they gave me my money back and sent me home,I remember In the Summer of 1980 they Ran The Blue Lagoon and MY Bodyguard all summer until 10/3/1980,they ran the goodbye girl a long time and also Held on to You Light Up my life a long time,they ran ANNIE HALL a long time and I saw The Resucers There….

It probably was the Ventnor. It’s been a while.
The Sensuround films were played at the Ventnor, which was a single screen in 1975. The Margate was twinned by “THE FRANKS” in 1973 and could not have Sensuround. I believed that the reopened it early in December of that year. The Main projectionists at tha time were Ed Hodge & Al Greenwood. The Margate opened in 1937. It had simular architecture to the Embassy. The roof of the autitorium was barn shaped and ran paralell to Ventnor Ave. The door to the booth open right behind the snack bar. This made it fun to interact with the cute candy girls. “THE FRANKS” built a new projection booth in front of the old one. It was a semi automated change over booth. The original Simplex XL’s were retained but got new Christe xenon lamphouses. the smaller side got the old E-7s from the Towne Cinema (Astor), Peerless Magnarcs. Both side got 6000' reels. I’m sure that it was still open in 1984. I was hired to just manage. Bob lord of Northfield was the projectionist. The shows were “Lady In Red”, and “Places In The Heart” By that time the Margate got Platters. BTW, at the time time all of “THE FRANKS” concessions were leased out to the Walter Reade Organization.

I saw two disaster movies at this theater in 1974, The Towering Inferno and Earthquake. The latter film was in Sensurround, which was an experience. I didn’t know at the time that I would move to California and experience the real thing in 1994!
The Margate theater was part of the Apollo circut chain which was bought out by the Frank family. It was twinned in the early 70’s. It closed sometime in the 80’s . I was told it is now an apartment complex like so many wonderful theaters in NYC.
I too found the wetland reference. The name Weiland came from the Ventnor Theater listing on CT. You may be correct that this theater was twinned at one time.
