Opened April 30, 1971 and located inside the Diplomat Mall, unspectacular in many ways, these twin theatres were fair enough and ran first-run for most of their lifespan. I saw “The Deer Hunter” here and the film disturbed me so much I went back again the following week to try and fugure out why.

These theatres also had a pre-release test run of Steven Spielberg’s “The Sugarland Express” for whatever reason. It was closed in the early-1980’s.

There was a plan to bring a six-plex discount house to this mall in the early 90s but it never came to pass. By the mid 80s, this mall was effectively dead with little foot traffic. IIRC, Diplomat 1 & 2 closed their doors in the early 80s.
