The February 10, 1940 issue of Boxoffice noted that the new Mimosa Theatre at Morganton, North Carolina, had recently opened.

This is where I got my start in the theatre business around 1994/95 when it was ran by Carmike Cinemas. Two screens, with a projection booth constructed closer to the screens. I got the pleasure of being able to go up by the old projection booth once or twice. Working there was a treat.

Interesting to read of the new multi-screen cinemas being built next to the original art deco Mimosa. I’ve learned that the Mimosa sits dark, today except for a restaurant in the lobby area, only. Would love to see interior photos and read personal memories of seeing movies at the Mimosa.

After attending this theater it looks like they gutted the original auditorium and made 3 screens from that space. The other 4 screens and lobby are all new construction built adjacent to the old. Everything flows together pretty well though. The restaurant occupies the original lobby area only.
