I worked at Skyway Cinemas in the mid-70’s as an usher— an amazing job for a high school kid—– but what was especially cool was that there was an arrangement between Skyway, the old Odeon on Lakeshore downtown, and the Burlington Mall cinemas where employees could see movies free at any theater Mon—Fri, so I spent many, many evenings at this theater. I remember them being plush, with real drapes across the screen that would ratchet up, and soft comfortable seats. I always wonder what the interior of the auditoriums of these defunct movie palaces look like today.

I got my first job at the “B-Mall” as a teenager in the mid 1990’s. Worked there for 3 years and helped to open the “Famous 8” on Brant Street. So many great memories. I worked there when Titanic came out, what a gong show…We had a lot of laughs and got into just enough trouble to keep us employed. Our Theatre Softball team was the best too!

A photo of the entrance of the Burlington Mall cinemas illustrates this brief article in Boxoffice of April 21, 1969. The architects of the house were Freedman, Petroff & Jeruzalski.

I remember seeing so many movies there. I lived at Rosedale and Dynes during the 70’s, amongst them I saw Monty Python and the holy grail when it came out. They used to have intermission there too as I recall. Great memories!

I saw many first-run movies here. They were both great theaters. Great picture and sound, and comfortable.

I was an assistant manager at this theatre for a year or so. I loved it. I can’t believe it no longer exists. I have so many memories of it. I remember sitting in the storage rooms upstairs and reading back through the record books to see what was playing in its first years of operation. I knew every inch of that theatre. Sadly missed.
