The Coronet opened for business on June 15, 1979 as a member of the Odeon Morton Theatre chain. There were originally 3 screens and the theatre was the first free standing multiplex in the city. Coronet 1 had 402 seats and the first movie shown there was “The Deer Hunter”. Coronet 2 had 304 seats and the first movie was “Halloween”. Coronet 3 had 356 seats and the first movie was “The Prisoner of Zenda”. Subsequent Chains operating the theatre were Canadian Odeon Theatres and Cineplex Odeon.

More to come later
